I did use squid-2.7-STABLE5 before, and it was compiled with the large
files option. I have looked into configure.log in the sourcetree to confirm.

I tried, but unfortunately this doesn't help. Did try with a test install
with the same configure options on a test-computer, and I get the same.
The new squid is configured with:
Squid Cache: Version 3.0.STABLE11
configure options:
'--prefix=/usr'
'--sysconfdir=/etc/squid'
'--bindir=/usr/sbin'
'--sbindir=/usr/sbin'
'--localstatedir=/var'
'--libexecdir=/usr/sbin'
'--datadir=/usr/share/squid'
'--libdir=/usr/lib64'
'--with-dl'
'--sharedstatedir=/var/squid'
'--enable-async-io=32'
'--enable-disk-io=AIO,Blocking,DiskDaemon,DiskThreads'
'--enable-removal-policies=heap,lru'
'--enable-icmp'
'--enable-delay-pools'
'--enable-esi'
'--enable-icap-client'
'--enable-kill-parent-hack'
'--enable-snmp'
'--enable-arp-acl'
'--enable-htcp'
'--enable-ssl'
'--enable-forw-via-db'
'--enable-cache-digests'
'--enable-linux-netfilter'
'--with-large-files'
'--enable-epoll'
'--enable-underscores'
'--enable-auth=basic,digest,ntlm,negotiate'
'--enable-basic-auth-helpers=DB,LDAP,MSNT,NCSA,PAM,POP3,SASL,SMB,YP,getpwnam,multi-domain-NTLM,squid_radius_auth'

'--enable-ntlm-fail-open'

cache.log says:

Do you have any idea where to look at to solve this?
I'm somewhat puzzled now...
