I did use squid-2.7-STABLE5 before, and it was compiled with the large
files option. I have looked into configure.log in the sourcetree to confirm.

I tried, but unfortunately this doesn't help. Did try with a test install
with the same configure options on a test-computer, and I get the same.

The new squid is configured with:
