So did I! Indeed, and removing it (always_direct allow all) didn't
have any unfortunate consequences :-). Now I am getting
FIRST_UP_PARENT, which is better I suppose?

As I mentioned in another post, I actually got it working... by
putting the values in /etc/hosts. It was sufficiently different for me
to want to do another post...
Thanks again, I think I am finally starting to get a clean squid.conf
file! I basically just put
everything all
to get things working, and now I am starting to understand how things
work am cleaning it up.
