I've been having problems with squid crashing, especially during busier
times. This is with RH 7.2 on s390.

Also, is the core written with uid/gid of user (squid?) or root? I
assume squid. I don't have a core now because the /var/log/squid/core/
was owned root:root, now it's squid:squid so if it happens again...
