You always have the original configuration in squid.conf.default. Just
copy this over squid.conf to delete all your configuration.
mv squid.conf squid.conf-old
cp squid.conf.default squid.conf
Then edit the new squid.conf to your liking. When done, remove all the
commented documentation and add comments describing why you have
configured things the way you have (the documentation can always be
found in squid.conf.default if needed).
If you want to reinstall Squid in case you think something may have
broke or when upgrading to a new version then just install the
version you want to have installed.
