 Define HANG more exactly, what happens if a site is tried
 from a browser, entries in access.log and/or cache.log ?

 A manual test could also be done as in :

 % telnet squid_box squid_port
 GET http://www.ford.com/ HTTP/1.0
 <double return>

 See what comes out, check entries in access and cache.log.
