Try issuing 'ps -A | grep squid' to see if it shows any squid process.
BTW, did you issued 'squid -z' to create the cache dir?
Your cache.log file would be a good place to look also.
I think that you already have the latest stable version.
I'm I wrong?
But you can try http://rpmfind.net and searche for squid

I had installed Squid 2.3.Stable4 on rhl6.2 as discribed in user
guide, when i try to start squid
/usr/local/squid/bin/squid
It respond blank, and when i try to check it
/usr/local/squid/bin/squid -k check
squid: ERROR: no running copy
Can any body suggest me where is the problem.
Secondly from where I can get the RPM format of latest stable
Squid.
