on a solaris8 system, do i still have to run autoconf/autoheader using gnu
gcc/make? these appear to be bundled in CPAN, is there any way i can get
them individually?
i didn't get any error, in fact i didn't get anything when i ran 'patch
squid ntlm.patch'!? or did it get put somewhere?

It looks to me like you didn't run
autoconf and
autoheader in $SQUID_HOME after you patched it. (This was in an earlier
post). If you look back I also asked for the exact error when you
patched - to which I got a description not the output.
I'm really keen to help and logs like the configure & make below really
help me help you.
