squid installed/compiled but will not run

This is what happens:

[root@opus bin]# /usr/local/squid/bin/squid -z

FATAL: getgrnam failed to find groupid for effective group 'nogroup'

I did not change anything in squid.conf yet I just wanted to see if it would
run, do I have to create a user nobody and group nogroup? should this just
not assume those users?

any ideas?
