DNS

Dear Squid-Users

I'm (using) Squid 2.3 STABLE2 with Red Hat 6.1, running on a PII.

I want to be able to run the web cache alongside the Apache server on the
same machine. The problem I have seems to be around DNS. I've looked at the
FAQ, searched previous help requests and tried various changes including
allowed_hosts, cache_peer and so on. I can successfully access my localnet
via IP numbers (my server is 192.168.1.1). Pages accessed by name on the
same server come back with "No DNS Records" as an error.

I haven't had success getting www pages either via my ISP. I think part of
the problem is using bind and the name daemon, but I'm not sure.

Does squid or the dnsserver that comes with it access /etc/hosts or
/etc/lmhosts ?

If you've any suggestions I would be grateful.

Thanks & regards
Mark
