Can you ls -l your squid dir for us? Also, which uid/gid squid runs under?

I purge the logs with this little thingie on the crontab (my rotate level is 8):

0 4 1,5,9,13,17,21,25,29 * * /usr/local/squid/bin/squid -k rotate
