It is not that hard to add HTTP as a access method to your FTP
mirrors, and ICP to tell Squid what's available. The ICP
protocol is very simple to implement (see scripts/icpserver.pl).
You can use close to any HTTP server you like, as long as it
has the ability to rewrite from ftp://ftp.server.net/path/ to
/home/ftp/pub/mirror/ftp.server.net/path/. Even the old CERN
HTTPd server is capable of this...
