RE: Squid on IDE

Hi,

I am using squid 2.0.PATCH2 very successfully on a pentium-pro-200 with 3
E-IDE harddisk of 6Gig, running RedHat Linux and 256Mb. I think your problem
is more the Internal memory and linux swapping than anything else. I am
serving around 300-700 simultaneous users with the load spread over 2 of
these babies...

Nowadays these EIDE drives are performance-wise more than adequate to handle
a load of 500+ simultaneous users...

My suggestion is to upgrade your memory first to at least 192Mb. If you then
still have problems with the speed then think about SCSI... And spread the
load over various disks will help as well.

Upgrade also to the latest squid. It has quite some performance
improvements...
