Hello,
I really did RTFM but I'm out o' clues here.
As far as I can tell I've done everything correctly (well, I guess not,
right?) but I still can't get squid to work on my system. From the looks
of the errors I'm thinking that it's not binding to the 3128 port. I
didn't see anything in the users manual or FAQ about setting the
port/service in /etc/services or anything.
Anyway here's what's going on, maybe some kind soul will throw a clue my
way....
BTW, system is a Caldera Open Linux box, kernel 2.0.33. Running squid from
/usr/local/squid with user:group of squid:squid, and yes, squid does own
ALL the files and directories in /usr/local/squid. I'm just using that
barest of config files that's in the FAQ just to see if I can get it running.

(goes through all 4 then quits)
While it's doing that, before it quits, I'll run these checks:
[root@linux bin]# client http://www.netscape.com/ > test
client: ERROR: Cannot connect to localhost:3128: Connection refused
[root@linux bin]# squid -k check
squid: ERROR: No running copy
Thanks for your patience with a newbie...
