Rotating logs

I'm novice Squid/Linux user. I'm trying to get Squid to rotate the logs
files, mainly to
delete before they grow too large.

I've set the -k rotate command line option and set the logfile_rotate 1 in
the squid.conf file.
However, I didn't see a new log file of any sort in the logs directory.
What am I doing wrong?
