I have and use both versions, 1.2 is much more configurable, but still not
perfect. The firewall stuff have been replaced with
never_direct ...
always_direct ..
which is more intuitive to setup. But it can't satify the 'parent_first'
requirement I have.
They are good for ensuring that traffic gets directed the way you want it
but it still has not support for a fail safe. The can get everything to go
to the caches parents by using never_direct. But if the parents go away
then your cache is effectively dead.
There needs to be a facility to allow squid to have a last resort option.
If all parents are gone then enable it to at least try going direct.
Correct me if I am wrong, but there doesn't appear to be such an option in
even the lastest 1.2 beta.
