Detect dead parent?

        Hi!

        We're making a deal with another ISP to use their proxy
        only between certain hours, and I was wondering how squid
        acts when parent dies. We could remove route to the parent
        at certain hours etc.
        Does Squid check out parent's existance every request
        or try again after certain amount of time?
        If Squid checks parent's existance on every request, how much
        is it gonna slow doen normal operation?
        We have two squid proxies, each getting about 100 t req/hour peek.
