DNS Problems

I'm having problems with my squid looking up domain names. The cache starts
fine, and works for IP addresses. On entering a valid domain name I get
"Unknown DNS Errors". Testing dnsserver manually it works fine (eg echo
mit.edu | dnsserver works)

Anyone have any ideas??
