Seems I compiled Squid as "root" and therefore all the swap files were
owned by root and group was root - so when squid ran as user nobody, it
could not write to the files.

chown -R nobody * and chgrp -R nobody * fixed it - now my proxy is MADLY
storing everything it sees.

I trust my proxy speed will increase dramatically now -
