No squid is on the web server's machine the dns server is on a seperate
machine.
What baffles me is that it all worked okay before hand...
ps. using dnsserver on both squid machine and dns machine gives:

$fail
$message DNS Domain '' is invalid: Host not found (authoritative).
$end

A correct message looks like:
194.207.66.12
$name 194.207.66.12
$h_name cnt3.come.net.uk
$h_len 4
$ipcount 1
194.207.66.12
$aliascount 0
$end

A bad one (which still SHOULD work):
cnt3.come.net.uk
$fail cnt3.come.net.uk
$message DNS Domain 'cnt3.come.net.uk' is invalid: Host not found
(authoritative
).
$end
