I'd like to have anyone's opinion on which version if Squid I should use
on a very operational proxy/cache.
Currently I run squid 1.0.5 (comes with BSD/OS).
Behaviour seems correct, quite stable, although it seems to core sometimes
when it gets too big.
Particularly I noticed that Cachemgr reports:
Meta Data:
StoreEntry 241171 x 48 bytes = 11304 KB
IPCacheEntry 966 x 56 bytes = 52 KB
Hash link 2 x 12 bytes = 0 KB
URL strings = 11043 KB
Pool MemObject structures 59 x 96 bytes = 5 KB ( 3 free)
Pool for Request structur 59 x 4508 bytes = 259 KB ( 154 free)
Pool for in-memory object 2402 x 4096 bytes = 9608 KB ( 3312 free)
Pool for disk I/O 44 x 8192 bytes = 352 KB ( 224 free)
Miscellaneous = 2329 KB
Total Accounted = 34955 KB
And top reports:
9829 root 2 4 69M 68M sleep 28:15 4.35% 4.35% squid
Is this difference common ?
Any advice on a more recent version, as stable, and with new features or
increased performances ?
