Right, this is what I _think_ is happening:

* connection breaks
* we read EOF from the FD
* commMarkHalfClosed() marks it as half-closed
* ...
* we read EOF from the FD again
* commMarkHalfClosed() get called again..
* .. which barfs because we already marked it half closed.
